Living A Life On Purpose

Have you ever wondered or prayed, “Lord what is MY purpose? Why am I here? What am I called to do?” You might not get the answers overnight, but you will over time. When I was a little girl, my parents enrolled me in gymnastics. At first, it was just for fun, but very quickly, my coach saw I had talent. I would learn all the routines fast and execute them with excellence. I even went to a competition and won the GOLD medal! My little 10-year-old mind thought, "Oh! I have found my purpose in life, I am on my way to the OLYMPICS as a gymnast!!!"
Society has perfected the art of attaching our value and purpose to what we do – gymnast, mom, friend, wife, job title, dream teamer, etc. What happens when those roles change? Does our purpose change? No! What we do may change, but our purpose remains in Christ.
Matthew 22:37-38 says “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”
What if we did just that - made loving God our first priority? The results of that would overflow in every title, every position, every responsibility we have, and all that we do in life. If we truly desire to live a life on purpose, we must first fully grasp that our identity is in Christ Jesus alone - not in what we do. God defines who we are. He has given us gifts and talents that are ours alone. Through understanding our identity in Him, our purpose is revealed.
Ephesians 1:11 says, “It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.”
Developing a real relationship with Christ (not just church on Sundays!), reading, learning, and applying God’s Word will add so much clarity to discovering our purpose. We'll go from guessing to knowing. As a student, single lady, wife, mom, or businesswoman, living a "life on purpose" will require loving and trusting Jesus in greater ways. We will often have to “clean house” of stuff that doesn’t belong anymore, old ways, old habits, or things that are a distraction or hindrance to our pursuit of loving God our Father. We must learn to govern our words, our thoughts, our habits, and associations, and be taught by
Romans 8:5-6, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”
