I Am Secure
It is said that women need security like men need sex! How is that for a conversation starter? Maybe it’s a little extreme to compare those needs, but the point is that women REALLY long for security. We need safety in our surroundings. We need value in our relationships. We need confidence in our identity.
In times like this, let’s face it, security has been turned on its head! For those of us “recovering control freaks”, it’s hard to stay on the wagon of security.
I don’t have to go through the litany of changes we’ve experienced in our world, our schedules, our social lives, our schools, and our economic success. Whatever can be shaken is being shaken…to the core!
But here’s a little perspective….
I’ve seen people with stability in their finances, schedules and relationships who are the most insecure people of all, because their security is in their status, and someone else always has more. Things don’t bring peace.
On the other hand, I’ve seen some of the happiest, most secure people who have nothing, like many of our Celebration Mozambique members. Yet, they have unexplainable joy.
Security can’t be bought…by us. It was paid for by Jesus. He leveled the playing field, offering us the greatest gift of security, by calling us His own. We are chosen, as daughters. Let that sink in.
In the most shakable times, He is unshakeable. He is not caught off guard by what’s happening in this whole wide world or by what’s happening in your whole personal world. In my life, it has taken seasons of difficulty, where I had no other choice but to rely on Jesus, that I’ve found that He is so worthy of my trust.
When my extended family gets together, we sing around the piano, and we always include an old song, with an eternal message, taken from Psalm 37:25, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” In recent days, that song has been on the playlist of my mind. I find myself humming that melody, reminding myself that I am secure in Jesus. He has been faithful throughout history, throughout my life, and He is not about to stop being faithful now.
Lean into Jesus, and let this be a time where we find our security, not in the news, or in our bank accounts, or even in our friendships. We can be secure in this…. He is security and He is all we need.
Psalm 40:1-2 “I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.”
