Fixed On Jesus

Throughout life, we are going to walk through different seasons. It is easy to look to Jesus and be thankful for the provision and blessings He has given us when we are standing on the mountaintop, but what about when we are in the bottom of a valley? That is when we must fix our eyes on Jesus.

“Fix” means to correct or make an adjustment. It means that our eyes have drifted off and it is time to bring them back to Him. When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, we are looking at Him and His promises rather than our circumstances to determine the outcome.

I want to share a story from the Bible that talks about someone who was facing a very difficult situation. There was a royal official whose son was extremely sick; the Bible says he was “lying to the point of death.” When this father heard that Jesus was in Galilee, he traveled to him and begged Jesus to come to his home and heal his dying son. It is important to note that this journey would have taken about two days to walk. (John 4: 46-47) This father was in the bottom of a valley and was determined to see Jesus. Can you relate? Jesus responded by saying to the man “Go at once; your son will live!” The father put his trust in Jesus and began the trek back home.

As the story goes on, a servant met up with the father and reported that his son was alive and healthy! The father asked the servant, “What time did my son get healed?” They realized that it was at the very hour that Jesus had spoken, “Your son will live!” that the miracle occurred.  What an amazing moment that must have been!

This story reminds us that God’s word is always true, and when He speaks nothing can stop Him. All I can think about is what must have been going through the father’s mind during his trip back home. He could have spent those two days filled with anxiety, grinding his teeth from the stress, and being flooded with worry. However, I like to believe that he kept repeating the words that Jesus spoke over and over, “My son will live! My son will live!”

What has God spoken to you? What are you believing for? Maybe today you feel discouraged. Just like this story, sometimes we get a word from the Lord and still must ‘walk back home’ without seeing the answer.

I encourage you to fix your eyes on Jesus! Your prayer has already been answered, and the Bible says that all of God’s promises are “Yes, and amen!” Repeat the word of God over your circumstances, and believe that what he says is always true. When you fix your eyes, mind, and thoughts on Jesus, you will receive a peace that surpasses all understanding, even on the walk back home.
